International airport in Castellón, located approximately 30 km north of Castellón de la Plana city, near the municipalities of Villanueva de Alcolea and Benlloch. Its identification codes are IATA: CDT and ICAO: LECH.

The project originated in the mid-1990s as a personal initiative of Carlos Fabra, then president of the Provincial Council of Castellón, who conceived it as a key piece to promote tourism in the province. Construction lasted for years and the total cost amounted to approximately 176 million euros. It was officially inaugurated in March 2011, but took more than two years to receive its first commercial civil flight.

Its location is notably rural: it is approximately 15 km in a straight line from the nearest settlement of any significance, in an area of irregular topography and with unfavourable wind conditions, factors that increased both its construction and operation costs. This location, far from any major city, distinguishes it from most reference Spanish airports.

The airport was successively managed by the public company Aerocas, the Canadian company SNC-Lavalin and the French company Edeis Management, before returning to Aerocas's hands. For years it became a symbol of the excesses of the Spanish property bubble: before operating its first flight, it already had a statue of Carlos Fabra on its premises. In 2013, a shortfall of more than 61 million euros was detected in Aerocas, and that same year Fabra resigned from the company's presidency when an oral trial opened against him for bribery, influence peddling and tax offences.
