Museum
The Castellón Museum of Ethnology is a centre dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the traditions, trades and ways of life of the city and province of Castellón. Opened in 1985, it is run by Castellón de la Plana City Council and forms part of the Museu de la Ciutat de Castelló (MUCC), alongside other municipal venues.
The museum is housed in an 18th-century stately home at 25 Cavallers Street, in the historic centre of Castellón. The building itself stands as an architectural testament to the city’s urban heritage, and its residential character provides a fitting domestic setting for the collections it houses.
The permanent collection comprises over 2,000 original items that document the customs and traditions of Castellón society, in both its rural and urban dimensions. Among the areas represented, traditional crafts, agricultural implements, household goods and items related to popular festivals stand out.
The museum probably houses the most important collection preserved on trades and daily life in the province of Castellón. Its holdings allow us to trace the evolution of productive and social activities from pre-industrial times to the mid-20th century.
The museum is accessed via Calle Cavallers, in the heart of Castellón’s old town, a short distance from the Plaza Mayor and other municipal cultural facilities. The building is closed on certain public holidays, so it is advisable to check the calendar on the MUCC website before visiting.
