Nature
The Natural Park of the Desert of the Palms is a protected natural area located in the province of Castellón that extends across five municipalities: Benicàssim, Cabanes, La Pobla Tornesa, Borriol and Castelló de la Plana. The presence of rodeno soils allows the existence of cork oaks and kermes oaks, although their presence is now scarce due to fires and agricultural transformations. The park offers spectacular landscapes, hiking routes and panoramic views of the Mediterranean coast.
The site was declared a natural park in 1989, making it one of the oldest in the Valencian Community. Its protected area covers approximately 3,200 hectares, where fires have left a visible mark on the landscape over the decades.
In addition to its natural value, the Desert of the Palms is home to significant historical and cultural heritage. Within the park there is a presence of the Carmelite order, whose convent is one of the most recognisable heritage elements of the site.
