Historic Theatre
In continuous operation since 1894
The Teatro Principal de Castellón is the main theatrical venue in the city, managed by the Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC) of the Generalitat Valenciana. It is part of the public theatre network of the Valencian Community alongside the Teatro Principal de Valencia and the Teatre Rialto de València.
The theatre hosts a stable and varied programme including theatre, dance, music and other performing arts. Through the IVC, performances of original production and co-productions are programmed, as well as proposals from the Circuit Cultural Valencià, which distributes cultural offerings across the autonomous community.
Among the activities it hosts, the presence of the Filmoteca de la Generalitat stands out, which screens film cycles at its facilities, as well as events linked to Valencian music and drama. The building serves as a cultural landmark for the province of Castellón.
Its public management through the IVC ensures an accessible and quality programme, with educational initiatives and cultural mediation aimed at different audiences, including teaching proposals and community projects.
